April Newsletter

Apr 30, 2012

With a wet and cold day at the Camperdown trials yesterday, we begin to light our fires and rug up the horses, winter is well and truly on its way.

Since the last newsletter congratulations go to Gerry Harvey for his recent win at Donald with COGHILLS CREEK. The Encosta De Lago gelding looks a promising horse, with having only a handful of starts, will have a few more wins in store.

Maiden filly MISS MONTGOMERY made her debut at Ballarat on Sunday for a nice 3rd. She will now step up in distance and hopefully collect the goods. Her half brother by Grey Swallow is on offer for lease and will be paraded at our open day in May.

It was a special day for the Ballarat Turf Club on Sunday, as it was the launch of their $200,000 Magic Millions 2yr old race that will be held on Ballarat Cup day in November. The race will be run clockwise over 1000m. This will be the first race in Victoria in over 60 years to be run clockwise. Only 2yr olds purchased from the Magic Millions sale will be eligible and it will be part of the build up to the Magic Millions Classic in January. A lovely Starcraft filly was purchased from the Gold Coast yearling sales in January by one of the stables very good owners Paul Mcdonald and she is being aimed at this race.

We have some nice young stock coming through the stables including two colts by Redoutes Choice and Hussonet. These boys were purchased for two and three hundred thousand dollars in January from yearling sales and are very excited about these also. They are currently being broken in and taking to their new vocation very well.

A new programme for the treadmill has been established giving us another variation to the horses training programme. The treadmills are great for unsound horses as they have a consistent, even surface. We are able to give the horses more controlled work with its speedometer and incline systems.

As you will be aware, we are having an open day on Sunday May 6th at our new ‘state of the art’ property, at Coghills Creek, on the outskirts of Ballarat. Here we will be showing some of our young stock that are for sale or lease. Some will be paraded by hand, and others under saddle, dashing up on our new grass track.
You will have the chance to look around our new complex and join us for a BBQ and refreshments.

Parading of the horses will begin around 11am. Family and friends are welcome.

Please contact us for more info.

We look forward to seeing you there!!
